I am not sure about you, but I am glad that the holiday festivities have finally calmed down. Winter Break has finally ended, and my boys are finally back in school. Don’t get me wrong, I love my children, but I value time to have space for myself to recharge.

As a work-at-home mom, I sometimes find it challenging to separate my identity and space when my workspace happens at home. When you go to a workplace, you would leave your home identity at home, disconnect and put on your work identity and socialize with your co-workers.

When you work from home, it can be challenging to disconnect as you are not leaving the house. Although you probably have an office space, the mess in the house stares you harder in the face. The lack of in-person social interactions can be lonely for moms when it seems like their only adult conversation is with their partner or, worse if they are single mothers.

Women are the heart of the home. We wear many hats. Whether working from home or not, we shoulder the responsibility of caring for everyone but often neglect our needs. Everyone needs us, and when we need time for ourselves, we often feel guilty about walking away to take a break to care for ourselves.

When the family becomes our primary responsibility, our needs take a back seat, and we begin to lose a sense of who we are. To ensure that we do not lose our sense of identity, we must be proactive in filling our cups and continually discovering our passions in life.
