Happy Holidays!

Christmas was fantastic this year. We had a great time visiting with family. We know it is always during the festivities when we connect with loved ones. There are families we feel connected to and some we have trouble connecting with.

Family relationships can be complicated; just as we have preconceived notions of what we think others are, we do the same unintentionally with family.

There is always a feeling of comfort when we spend time with family, whether we feel connected or not. There is a sense of familiarity even when we don’t know each other well enough to know what’s happening in each other’s lives.

Christmas is when we put all differences aside and just come together to celebrate being in each other’s company and, in a sense, healing. It is almost a reset for a new beginning in building relationships.

Whether it be family or acquaintances, we sometimes stay passive in relationships to protect ourselves from being hurt. We also need to figure out where to start building a deeper connection. There is always a question of what if I am rejected. There is freedom to take the initiative without expecting to get the same in return. Because expectations breed disappointment, when you show up with an open heart with no reservations, you will be amazed by how you feel just by taking that step. It is like you are opening the doors to the possibility of building a relationship that could be great.

As we approach the new year with a new sense of beginning, please stay open to the possibility of creating new relationships.
